How ControlF5 Migrated YallaToys from Magento to Shopify: Scaling a Bilingual, Dual-Country Store for Qatar and Bahrain
Some Shopify migrations test your technical skills. Others test your ability to think across markets, languages, and audiences at the same time, all while moving a live, high-volume store off its old platform without losing the ground it had already gained. YallaToys tested all three.
What the client needed was a full migration from Magento to Shopify, into a single store capable of serving shoppers in Qatar and Bahrain, in both English and Arabic, across three distinct product worlds: toys, baby care, and children’s books, with a catalogue of over 25,000 products and a live content programme running from day one.
Every part of the store, from its architecture to its smallest metadata field, had to be rebuilt to work equally well for a parent browsing in Arabic on a mobile in Doha and an English-speaking shopper placing an order from Manama, all while protecting the traffic and rankings the Magento store had already built up.
This is how ControlF5 made it happen.
The Brief
YallaToys is a Middle Eastern e-commerce store serving customers across Qatar and Bahrain with a product range that spans toys and games, baby and maternal care essentials, and children’s books and educational materials.
The store is structured into three audience-specific sections, YallaToys, YallaMomz, and YallaBookz, each with its own identity, content tone, and shopping focus, all living under one domain at yallatoys.com.
The client came to ControlF5 running on Magento, with a catalogue that had outgrown the platform’s flexibility and a storefront that was becoming harder to scale, maintain, and optimise across two languages and two markets. The brief was to migrate the entire store to Shopify without losing existing SEO equity, and to use the move as an opportunity to rebuild the experience properly for both Qatar and Bahrain.
The store needed to deliver a genuinely local experience in both countries, two markets with overlapping cultures but distinct shopping behaviour. It needed to function fully in English and Arabic, with the Arabic experience treated as equal in quality, not a translation layer added at the end. And it needed to carry over a product catalogue running into tens of thousands of SKUs, migrated cleanly and re-optimised for search on the new platform.
Alongside the migration, the brief included a complete SEO setup, a monthly bilingual content programme, a full app integration stack, and active performance marketing across Google and Meta.

Challenges
Migrating 25,000+ Products Off Magento Without Losing SEO Equity
Moving a catalogue of this size off Magento is not a simple export-import job. Product data, categories, images, URLs, and metadata all had to be mapped and rebuilt for Shopify’s structure, with careful handling of URL redirects so that existing search rankings and backlinks carried over rather than resetting to zero. Any gap in this process would have meant lost organic traffic on day one of the new store.
One Store, Three Distinct Audiences
YallaToys, YallaMomz, and YallaBookz are not separate websites; they are sections within a single Shopify store, each serving shoppers with different needs and different intent.
Designing a store that gave each section a clear, self-contained identity while maintaining a shared cart, checkout, and navigation structure required careful planning at every level of the build.
Arabic as a First-Class Experience
Delivering a genuine Arabic experience meant far more than running the store through a translation tool. Arabic is a right-to-left language with its own typographic rules, layout logic, and search behaviour.
Product descriptions, collection copy, metadata, navigation, and all app-generated text had to be written and configured for Arabic speakers from the ground up, not retrofitted after the English version was live.
Re-Optimising 25,000+ Products for Two Languages and Two Markets on a New Platform
Migrating over 25,000 products is an operational challenge on its own. Rebuilding each one with properly written meta titles, descriptions, and keywords, in both English and Arabic, and targeted to the search patterns of shoppers in Qatar and Bahrain, took meticulous execution across weeks of structured work.
No shortcuts were taken on metadata quality, because the search visibility of the entire catalogue depended on how well the migration preserved and improved on what Magento had built.
Location-Specific Strategy Across Two Countries
Qatar and Bahrain share cultural common ground, but their consumers search differently, buy differently, and respond to different seasonal and cultural moments.
A single content and marketing approach applied to both markets would underperform in each. Every blog article, keyword set, and paid campaign had to be tailored to the specific country it was targeting.
Managing these differences effectively requires a well-structured Shopify Markets setup. For brands planning to sell across multiple countries, our guide How to Create Markets in Shopify (and Shopify Plus): The Complete Guide for Brands Ready to Go Global explains how to configure domains, currencies, languages, pricing, and country-specific experiences from a single Shopify store.
A Complex App Ecosystem That Had to Be Rebuilt in Two Languages
The client’s Magento setup relied on its own set of extensions for SEO, reviews, loyalty, ads integration, email marketing, currency switching, language translation, page building, and product discovery. None of these carried over directly. Shopify equivalents had to be selected, configured for both English and Arabic, and tested to work together without conflicts, speed issues, or interface inconsistencies.
Solutions
a. Magento to Shopify Migration
We began by auditing the existing Magento store: its full product catalogue, category structure, URL patterns, and historic content, before mapping everything to Shopify’s data structure. Products, collections, images, and metadata were migrated in a structured, phased process, with redirects mapped across the board so that existing search equity and backlinks transferred to the new store without disruption.
- Full audit of the Magento catalogue, category tree, and URL structure
- Structured product, collection, and media migration into Shopify
- 301 redirect mapping to preserve existing SEO rankings and backlinks
- Post-migration QA to confirm data integrity across both language versions
b. Shopify Store Design & Development
On the new platform, we built YallaToys using the Glozin theme, adapting it to support three distinct store sections within a single unified environment.
Each section, YallaToys, YallaMomz, and YallaBookz, was given its own visual character and content voice, while the overall store maintained consistent navigation, a shared cart, and a single checkout experience regardless of which section a shopper entered through.
- Full store setup and Glozin theme customisation for a multi-section retail structure
- Custom collection and product page templates built for clarity, trust, and conversion
- Mobile-first design with complete Arabic RTL and English LTR layout support throughout
- PageFly Landing Page Builder for campaign landing pages and curated collection hubs
- LFS Instant Brand Page for brand-specific content areas within the store
- Smartviewer Quick View to reduce browsing friction and shorten the path to cart
This approach follows many of the same principles discussed in our guide on How Two Brands Built Multiple Markets & Languages in Shopify, where we break down how international brands can manage multiple countries, currencies, and languages from a single Shopify ecosystem.
c. Dual-Country Configuration & Currency Localisation
The store was configured to serve Qatar at yallatoys.com and Bahrain at bh.yallatoys.com, with shoppers routed to their country’s experience automatically and a visible market switcher available throughout the store.
Pricing was set in Qatari Riyal for Qatar shoppers and Bahraini Dinar for Bahrain, eliminating currency confusion at the browsing and checkout stages.
Language switching between English and Arabic was implemented using Weglot (AI & Human translation) and T Lab AI Language Translate. All Arabic content, product descriptions, collection headings, navigation, and checkout copy were reviewed and written for natural readability, not machine-translated and left unedited.
We also configured market-specific shopping experiences, similar to the strategies covered in Shopify Payments + Markets: How to Show the Right Payment Methods by Country, helping brands present the most relevant payment options to customers based on location.
d. Post-Migration Product Optimisation & Bilingual On-Page SEO
Once the catalogue was migrated, all 25,000+ products across the three store sections were individually re-optimised for the new platform.
Each product was given a unique meta title, meta description, and keyword set, written for English and Arabic search separately, and aligned to how shoppers in Qatar and Bahrain actually search for these products rather than generic global terms.
Collection pages for YallaToys, YallaMomz, and YallaBookz were written with original SEO copy in both languages, covering the range, surfacing key products, and integrating location-aware keywords. Every major category page was ready to rank organically from launch day, building on the equity carried over from Magento.
e. Technical SEO & Site Architecture
A comprehensive SEO foundation was implemented across the store using Avada AI SEO Suite Optimizer and Boost AI Search & Filters:
- Keyword research specific to toys, baby care, and children’s books in Qatar and Bahrain
- Optimised URL structures, heading hierarchies, and internal linking across all sections
- Alt text and image metadata applied at scale across the full product catalogue
- Structured data markup for products and collections
- Location-targeted SEO with separate strategies for Doha and Manama audiences
- Arabic-language SEO is built as a parallel track with its own keyword research and metadata, not translated from English
f. Content Strategy & Monthly Blog Publishing
We manage an ongoing content programme for YallaToys, publishing six SEO-optimised articles per month. Every article is produced in both English and Arabic and targeted to one of the two markets, so each publishing cycle generates location-aware, bilingual content that builds organic visibility and audience trust simultaneously.
Content is structured around a pillar-and-cluster model matched to each store section. YallaToys covers age-appropriate toy recommendations, seasonal gifting, and child development.
YallaMomz publishes on parenting, baby care, and maternal health. YallaBookz focuses on children’s reading, literacy milestones, and educational resources. All articles are written in an editorial tone, informative and readable first, optimised second.
g. App Integration & Conversion Stack
We curated and integrated a full suite of Shopify apps across four functional areas, each tested for compatibility with the bilingual setup before going live:
Shopify Product Reviews & Social Proof Apps
- Judge.me Product Reviews for automated post-purchase review collection
- Yotpo: Product Reviews for visual UGC and rich review display
- AIT Loyalty, Review & WhatsApp for WhatsApp-based review requests — essential for Middle Eastern shoppers
Shopify Loyalty, Retention & Marketing Apps
- Smile: Loyalty Program Rewards for points-based repeat purchase incentives
- UpPromote Affiliate Marketing for referral and influencer traffic
- Yotpo: Email Marketing & SMS for lifecycle automation and broadcast campaigns
- Klaviyo for advanced segmentation, behavioural triggers, and email flows

- Post Purchase Upsell-ReSell for post-checkout upsell sequences
- Notify! Back in Stock PreOrder and STOQ Preorder for pre-order and waitlist management
Ads & Performance Marketing
- Facebook & Instagram for social commerce, awareness campaigns, and retargeting
- Google & YouTube for shopping, search, and display targeting high-intent buyers in both markets
Results
The migration and rebuild delivered measurable improvements across traffic, product discoverability, and purchase conversion for all three store sections.
A clean move off Magento, a 25,000+ product catalogue fully migrated and optimised in two languages, and a consistent monthly content programme gave YallaToys strong organic visibility across both Qatar and Bahrain from the early months on Shopify.
Arabic-language shoppers now have access to a fully native experience, browsing in their own language, seeing local pricing, and encountering content written specifically for their market.
This meaningfully reduced friction for a customer segment that had previously been underserved in this product category across the Gulf.

A Shopify store design and development project delivering a conversion-focused storefront for an emerging label, built with a sharp visual identity, strong product page structure, and a performance-first approach from day one.
“YallaToys was one of those projects where the complexity was present at every level — the product volume, the bilingual requirements, the dual-country configuration, the number of apps that all had to work together cleanly. What made it manageable was the clarity the client brought to every stage. They knew their audiences well, they made decisions quickly, and they trusted the process even when the work was happening under the surface.
The bilingual SEO and content work in particular required a level of care that goes beyond standard delivery. Arabic-language SEO is not just translation, it is a completely separate research and optimisation track.
The result is a store that genuinely works for Arabic-speaking shoppers, not one that has Arabic as a checkbox.”

Conclusion
YallaToys represents some of the most layered work we deliver at ControlF5, a project where the technical, creative, and operational demands arrived simultaneously and had to be managed without compromise.
A product catalogue in two languages, dual-country configuration, three audience-specific store sections, a live content programme, and a full conversion stack all had to come together as a single coherent experience.
The store that exists today is not just functional; it is genuinely built for the people it serves. Arabic shoppers in Qatar and Bahrain get a store that speaks their language, shows their currency, and gives them content written for their market. English shoppers get the same standard on their side.
That parity was the goal from day one, and it is what the finished store delivers.
If you are planning to migrate an existing store to Shopify, or launch and scale one for a multilingual or multi-market audience, this is the kind of work we do every day.
